Ohio Student Association is a statewide grassroots organization led by young people and anchored by student-led chapters on college campuses across the state. OSA brings together young Ohioans from different backgrounds and with different experiences to imagine and fight for a better future.

Formed in 2012 in the thralls of the Occupy movement, we have grounded ourselves in the vision of accessible education, transformative justice, and participatory democracy in which every young person has a valued voice. OSA is a part of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, an innovative statewide organization that unites community organizing groups, labor unions, faith organizations and policy institutes across Ohio.

OSA Digital Organizer

Ohio Student Association (OSA) seeks a digital and communications professional to support OSA’s member leaders in content creation and digital and communications strategy and manage OSA’s social media, email list, and website.

Desired Skills and Abilities

The OSA Digital Organizer should be committed to the principles of social justice, adept at building relationships across diverse backgrounds, have a leadership background, and be excited about political strategy and direct action organizing. They should have strong planning and organizational skills, strong time management skills, strong relational and interpersonal skills, and strong written and oral communication skills, as well as 1-2 years or more of demonstrated experience in organizing, activism, advocacy, civic engagement, and/or digital strategy.

Job Responsibilities

● Able to work with leaders across race, class, and gender

● Become an expert in Race Class Narrative (RCN) messaging frameworks

● Work with OSA organizers and member leaders to support their digital strategy on local and statewide campaigns

● Oversee OSA’s social media, email and web presence

● Produce creative content and products for OSA members leaders and organizers

● Support member leaders through training around digital and communications strategy and email management for organizing

● Participate in campaign framing and messaging, including collaborating on talking points, press releases, reports, and other communications materials as necessary

● Attend and actively participate in team and statewide meetings, meet regularly with supervisor, submit all reports in a timely manner, and attend professional organizer training as required

● Submit documentation in a timely manner and follow guidance on legal and policy compliance

● Have some understanding of the intersection between race, class, and gender’s effect on socioeconomic policy and believe in progressive values

● Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as required

Position Details and Requirements

The OSA Digital Organizer will be a 15 hr/week part-time salaried position. The Coordinator must possess a cell phone, a driver’s license, and have access to a reliable automobile. In-state travel and some weekend and evening hours will be required. Work-related expenses are reimbursed according to policy. Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, ability to sit in meetings and lift moderate weight for supplies. This position is part-time and will receive vacation and sick time according to policy, however, is not eligible for healthcare benefits.

Classification

Ohio Organizing Collaborative recognizes a staff bargaining unit with the Ohio Organizing Collaborative Staff Union/Chicago Midwest Regional Joint Board, Workers United. This position is included in the Ohio Organizing Collaborative’s bargaining unit and covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
