MAKI SOMOSOT
Strategic Communications Advisor, OOC
Maki Somosot supports the OOC’s narrative, digital, and communications for a slate of progressive issues across race and class in Ohio. She believes in the power of storytelling and its intrinsic capacity to enact social change and build community. She has carried out much of her career at the intersection of journalism and communications, including covering Ohio politics for Capital & Main and managing media relations for the Equal Justice Initiative.
Maki graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and has a master's in journalism entrepreneurship from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her work has appeared in global and national outlets including The Guardian, Fast Company, Prism, Reuters, and the online Filipino publication Rappler.
In her spare time, Maki loves to cook, travel, and support BIPOC-owned businesses. Born and raised in the Philippines, she is an adopted Ohioan who loves discovering the nooks and crannies of the Buckeye State.
