We are excited to celebrate Black History Month with you by spotlighting the local grassroots leaders, heroes, and role models who are living out Black History in Ohio — past, present and future.
28 days is nowhere near enough time to honor the significant role that Black Americans have played in shaping our country’s history. Even so, the month of February serves as a public affirmation of the essential contributions that African-Americans have made in our country and their continued fight for racial justice.
It’s essential for Black Americans to have pride in their heritage. Black is excellence, joy, resilience, and being outspoken. Black comes in all shades of melanated greatness.
Black history is American history. Our history. This country would not exist without the historic contribution and leadership of countless Black leaders, inventors, revolutionaries, and trailblazers who have forged a powerful legacy of resistance and paved the way for a multiracial democracy.
