OOC seeks an experienced policy and advocacy specialist to lead the organization's exciting and diverse climate justice campaigns in Ohio.
Required Skills & Abilities
The program manager is a self-motivated and detail-oriented critical thinker with a strong track record of successfully and concurrently managing a variety of initiatives. They are committed to the principles of social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion, have a leadership background, and know how to manage a large volume of relationships and solve problems quickly and efficiently. They possess strong planning and organizational skills, strong time management skills, strong relational and interpersonal skills, and strong written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will have related experience and a strong office and database software skill base.
Key Responsibilities
Effective Collaboration and Communication: Able to work effectively with diverse staff, leaders, partners, and the general public.
Campaign and Work Plan Development: Works closely with the team and supervisor to develop and implement campaign and work plans, including a yearly professional development plan.
Community Power-Building: Works with leaders across race, class, and gender to align different interests toward the common goal of building community power for progressive reforms.
Identifies and develops relationships with grassroots parent groups, local elected leaders, climate justice stakeholders, faith-based institutions, labor unions, and social/economic justice advocates.
Field and Organizing Support: Supports field and organizing efforts to educate and mobilize people on climate solutions.
Coalition Building and Stakeholder Engagement: Convenes stakeholder meetings, builds coalitions, identifies issues, and strategizes with teams to implement short- and long-term campaigns.
Policy Research and Analysis: Researches and analyzes policy reform and implementation opportunities to advance campaign goals.
Testimony Preparation and Legislative Engagement: Identifies opportunities and prepares community members to testify at regulatory and legislative bodies.
Integration of Organizing and Policy Change: Integrates community organizing efforts with long-term, community-driven policy change initiatives.
Campaign Communications and Material Development: Participates in campaign research, framing, and messaging, including developing talking points, press releases, reports, social media content, and other communications materials.
Grant Writing and Reporting: Supports grant writing and reporting for relevant program areas.
Organizational Participation and Development: Actively participates in team and statewide meetings, meets regularly with supervisor, submits reports on time, and attends required training sessions.
Understanding of Intersectional Issues: Has an understanding of the intersection between race, class, gender, and socioeconomic policy and supports progressive values.
Support for OOC Policy, Research, and Advocacy Goals: As needed, support other OOC policy, research, and advocacy goals.

Position Details
The Climate Program Manager is a full-time salaried position. A Master's Degree or equivalent work experience is preferred, but persons meeting the skills listed above should still apply. Benefits include health/dental insurance, vacation, and retirement match. The organizer must possess a cell phone, an Ohio driver’s license, and have access to a reliable automobile. In-state and national travel is required. Some weekend and evening hours will be required. Work-related expenses are reimbursed according to policy. Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, ability to sit in meetings and lift moderate weight for supplies. Columbus-based candidates are preferred but not required.
Classification Ohio
Ohio Organizing Collaborative recognizes a staff bargaining unit with the Ohio Organizing Collaborative Staff Union / Chicago Midwest Regional Joint Board Workers United. This position is not included in the Ohio Organizing Collaborative’s bargaining unit.
Experience and Salary Range
Previous experience is preferred but not required. Program manager positions begin at $63,000 and can be increased commensurate with experience.
